Recently, my family and I went to Italy. The cities we went to were: Rome, Pompeii, Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast. We started our travels in Rome. Rome was a beautiful city with a lot of history and architecture. We saw many sights such as the Colosseum, the Palentine Hill, Roman Forum, Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, the Vatican and Circus Maximus. Of these, my favorite has to be the Colosseum. It was a beautiful piece of architecture! I learned that it was built in 8 years, it had a retractable roof, and there used to be statues in the holes on the walls but they were taken to museums.

The next city we visited was Pompeii. Pompeii was my favorite part of the trip and if you’re visiting southern Italy, you have to go! We learned so many things about how ancient Romans lived. We learned that they had sliding doors in front of stores, and they had ridges in the ground for carriage wheels to ride in. They had theaters, amphitheaters, stores, two stories, fountains, restaurants and meeting squares. It was so well preserved and they’re still going to be digging up the city for another 200 years.

The third city we visited was Sorrento. Sorrento is known for their lemon trees and lemon farms. We visited a lemon farm and it was amazing. It smelled strong and it was very pretty. We learned that the trees actually had bitter orange tree trunks with lemon tree branches. We even had a taste testing platter at the end of the tour! We got to try their lemon and orange oils, jams and their honey. It was so delicious and the lemon trees were beautiful!

The final place we visited was the Amalfi Coast. It had absolutely stunning views. We took a tour going to many towns on the coast. The food was absolutely amazing and we saw so many good views on the coastline. It’s known for it’s amazing, tall cliffsides, breathtaking waters, and colorful villages that line the cliffs and coasts. It was an amazing place for shopping and small on the go coffee shops and bakeries.
